'Bad Girls' - M.I.A.

20FEB2012

Pretty bold move on MIA’s part, releasing this cloudy beat-ridden track against her offering on Madonna’s new saccharine-sweet ‘Give Me All Your Luvin’’ but then that speaks volumes about her character anyway, doesn’t it? ‘Bad Girls’ is a somewhat disappointing return to the music scene for MIA. Yes, it’s gutsy and has a great Middle-Eastern hip-hop vibe, but the lyrics? Come on.  “My chain hits my chest when I’m banging on the radio” is a little bit of an embarrassing rapper cliché anyway but coming from her, it seems like she churned it out in two seconds, not wanting to tear this tune away from being 100% chart worthy. A cop out? I think so. Who knows,
maybe she has something bigger up her sleeve but for now we can only hope she’s going to make a more typically controversial re-appearance properly at some point soon.
